M.E.N. in running for NHS award

THE Manchester Evening News has been shortlisted for a top regional health award.

The M.E.N.'s stop smoking campaign has been praised in the health promotional campaign category of the Greater Manchester NHS awards - which aims to highlight the work of doctors, nurses, paramedics and health workers.

The Evening News is also sponsoring an award designed to recognise an individual who has made a real difference to patients.

The winners of the 13 categories will be revealed at a ceremony at New Century House on Thursday.

The finalists in the M.E.N. awards are:

Sue Lewis, from Manchester Drug Service;

Patrick Sheehan, an ear nose and throat surgeon working with deaf Downs Syndrome children at Manchester Children's Hospital;

Daniel Hunter, a speech and language therapist, from Rochdale, who helps stammerers;

Neera Bhandari, from Wythenshawe Hospital's maternity department, who campaigned for an ultrasound scanner;

A team from Salford Royal Hospitals' Trust who travelled to India to help earthquake victims.
