The future of Manchester’s world famous cancer hospital is to be decided by the public – including whether it should treat more private patients.
Thousands of people are being asked for their views on what The Christie should be doing in the year 2020, as part of a public consultation.
You can take part in the consultation by completing the ten questions in the survey at the bottom of this page
Bosses say it could revolutionise how the Withington hospital – the largest cancer centre in Europe – cares for patients.
They are looking at expanding their services – including treating more private patients to boost NHS income and testing people for cancer at the site rather than at local hospitals.
Currently patients undergo tests and cancer surgery at local hospitals before being referred to The Christie for chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
But the shake-up could see patients going straight to The Christie, if their GP suspects they have cancer, to have all their treatment.
Last year, bosses signed a £14m deal with US medical giant HCA International to develop a private patient centre – with Christie’s share of the profits ploughed back in to caring for NHS patients and researching new treatments. Bosses could look at introducing similar projects – but want to listen to what the public want before taking decisions.
People will be asked to answer questions in the ‘ground-breaking’ 11-week 20:20 Vision consultation.
Chief executive Caroline Shaw said: “The future offers many challenges but also opportunities for NHS organisations.
“We therefore want to develop a strong strategy to further develop services for cancer patients and want people’s views.”
The consultation will run until December 16 and the results will be revealed on April 2 next year. People can give their views online at www.christie.nhs.uk or via a video booth at the hospital.

John Leech MP (Withington): go on, tell us all how it was the LimpDums who saved the Christie when naughty Labour threatened its existence. Lies, lies and more lies.
Make the most of what you have, Mr Leech, your days in Westminster - and that of your Pinnochio-like party leaders - are numbered.
The Christie will do what it has to do to survive - the rabble, currently in power will brook no 'sacred cows'.
Iwas diagnosed with prostate cancer at Tameside after a routine urine test for bladder cancer I have had every year because of my involvement with certain chemicals. A ll tests proved negative but the urology which incidently is run from Stepping Hill although at Tameside persevered and found the cause. They were brilliant and Christies were brilliant, but as they say everyone in the world faces serious challenges over the next decade.
Everyone except labour who go on playing their own childish games in their own little bubble.
