TWO new bosses are aiming to tackle problems at Greater Manchester's crisis-hit health trusts.

After a 10-month search, Pennine Acute Trust, which runs hospitals in Oldham, Rochdale, Bury and North Manchester, has recruited John Saxby to take charge of their major reorganisation and tackle a predicted £14m debt.

And Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust has appointed Sheila Foley to tackle their service shake-up, debts and deal with striking nursing staff.

Mr Saxby, who will earn £160,000 a year, is chief executive of Durham and Darlington Hospital Trust and Ms Foley is currently director of mental health services for private company Capio Healthcare.

Mental health services in Manchester are on the brink of a major reorganisation following a public consultation called Change in Mind.

Unison leaders claim bosses want to cut 33 community nurses and six occupational therapists from the trust, but senior managers say they plan to increase the overall number of staff.
