The table you published on Jan 26th for GCSE's results in 2005 showed the weakness of publishing bare tables. The schools which did well under the 5A*-C system but whose results were greatly altered by the imposition of the English and Maths requirement were not doing anything wrong. They were simply trying to do their best for their students. Parents need to visit schools and ask questions before they choose which school to send their children to. Don't just look at the tables.
Ian Shaw
I beleive that school league tables are a useful tool when judging a school and should be used as a cornerstone for parental judgmement in the future. Mr Shaw will just have to work harder to get a poor school back on the correct path.
