But teachers are determined to bounce back.
Inspectors who monitored St Mary's Primary School ruled it needed to raise standards and improve children's achievement in reading, writing, mathematics and science.
Council bosses will now offer a wide range of support. A spokesman said `robust' plans were in place. Improvements would also be made to the teaching and learning provided.
Acting head Eileen Goldsmith said: "The staff, parents and governors are all totally committed to St Mary's and the measures that need taking to improve all aspects of education.
"Everyone here is dedicated to the education and welfare of the children attending St Mary's and we are resolute in making the necessary improvements." Tweet
