MANCHESTER has held on to its crown as Britain's favourite student destination.
Figures released by undergraduate admissions board UCAS reveal Manchester University is once again the most popular institution with 59,522 people - equivalent to four times the total population of student district Fallowfield - applying for courses beginning September.
Manchester Metropolitan University is the fourth most popular higher education institution in the country, attracting just short of 40,000 applications.

I am sure that students would not be applying to MMU in such numbers if they knew that the university intended to move much of its provision to the outdated, inaccessible and crowded Didsbury campus.
