Becks and Jess band beat the bullies

ENGLAND football captain David Beckham spoke out against playground bullies as he presented the one millionth wristband in the national Beat Bullying campaign.

He gave the blue band to 13-year-old girl Jess Sparrow of Leftwich High in Northwich. He said: "This is a cause which is close to my, and every parent's, heart. Bullying is something we all have responsibility to stamp out."

The Department of Education campaign was launched in November, and has the backing of Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, U2's Bono, and sporting celebrities including Olympic gold-medalist Kelly Homes.

Difference

Jess stood up to bullies by joining the campaign. She said: "I can't believe that a few weeks ago my life was so different, so miserable, but the Beat Bullying wristbands really made a difference in my school.

"Every time I see someone wearing one I feel like I am not alone, that they are supporting me."

Education minister Stephen Twigg said: "By making this stand, young people have shown their determination to stand by their friends and beat bullying in schools.".

Anything that combats Bullying must be good. The problem is that we talk about or its headlines for a few weeks then it goes on the backburner until another tragedy happens.
All of us must focus on Bullying all the time.

we must all stick together on this bullying thing our school as banned all bands worn around the wrist so what does that say!!!!! we now have them on our bags instead bullying is really bad when you are on the reciving end off it, i can tell you...when you complain you seem to be the one in the wrong then what punishment do they get??? Time off school...Just what they want so they can come to school and watch you at break and lunch time and No 1 can do anything cause there not on school land....GREAT STUFF..... Bands are a great idea we will keep wearing them....

I don't see how wearing a band round one's wrist can help combat bullying. Personally, I think the only efficient thing would be to have the bullies expelled or institutionalized.

I agree that wristbands do not come close to tackling the problem at hand. We here all this talk about palns in place for 0 tolerence, i have yet to see this at Littlemoss School in Droylsden. My son tells me that if the victim stays off school for a day after being bullied, they forget about them for a couple of days. That they find someone else for the short term to bully.I have even seen the bullies bullying the staff. Makes you wounder who has control. Who ensures that policies are being followed through with? To my knowledge the answer nobody outside the school. Certianly more need to be done about this issue. Inventing some wrist bands to say support something says absoloutly nothing about what is being done to tackle the real problem. In my opinion the bully themselves should face expolsion from school, the parents should also be held accountable and where physical contact is present, the law brought in. This really makes you wounder what kind of parents these children must have as role models.

I think everyone is entitled to their opionon and i know many people have suffered bad with bullying, like me for instance, and i think its good many people can fight it! I know people who gave up! i was going to give up, until i relized you would make not only yourself suffer but other people too! Whilst I agree that the bands can not combat the problem alone, what they do is bring awarness to everyone and also help bully victims feel that they are not alone and people everywhere, from all walks of life from the captain of England to the local shop keeper is with them. That to a child who has been demoralized (and I know from my sons experiences) is something that can only do a lot of good. Well done to everyone who has joined together in this, we'll make schools and the bullies see that they wont win.

my son has suffered bullying at school and decided to wear a band because of it but unfortunately his school does not seem to support the cause because every day he is told to take the band off as it is not part of school dress code, and this upsets him.
