A new principal will take charge of one of Manchester's worst-performing secondary schools.
Students at the Manchester Enterprise Academy have been without a permanent headteacher since Marie Quayle stood down last year.
The Wythenshawe secondary, formerly Parklands High, was relaunched in 2009 as an independent academy backed by Manchester airport and other sponsors. James Eldon, currently senior deputy head at Chorlton High, has been announced as its next principal.
Mr Eldon, 39, has been credited with overseeing significant improvements at the south Manchester school.
He said: “The quality of the sponsors, the fantastic new building and the dedication of the staff means that this is an outstanding opportunity.
“Having worked in Manchester for seven years, I have a loyalty to the city and its aim of providing a highly skilled, well-educated workforce ready to drive forward the local economy in these uncertain times.”
The school has among the worst truancy rates and GCSE results in Manchester, with just 27 per cent of pupils gaining five A*-C grades last year.
But Julie Armstrong, the school board’s chairwoman, promised improvements. She said: “James has a proven track record.
“His experience will be key in ensuring we continue to provide better education for the students of Wythenshawe.”

The government/council have plowed millions upon millions into education over recent years and what has been the result ?
The result in Wythenshawe is a standard of education for local kids that has never been worse.
30yrs ago there were 8 high schools that served Wythenshawe now it's down to 3 and it's resulted in an appalling drop in standards.
Talk about social mobility ? , education is the key and we are all being failed.
The liberal education establishment have destroyed state education. Is it any coincidence that social mobility in this country ground to a halt in the 1970s when the effects of comprehensivisation hit? State education panders to the lowest common denominator --'inclusion' they call it -- and in order to ensure that 'every child counts' has reduced standards to such an abysmal level that qualifications are now worthless. No school in the world can compensate for the destruction of family life from which so many kids in this area suffer. Until the government does something to counter the trend that means more and more kids are growing up without fathers teh situation will continue to deteriorate. Stop paying feckless women to have kids they can't look after.
Has Robbie Williams lost weight ?
I go Manchester Enterprise Academy. Glad to hear they didn't tell us about this new head -.-
As a student of Manchester Enterprise Academy, i am outraged that our school has that status, it's forgetting the good side of our school which i must say is much more than 27% are very intelligent and have a bright future!
As a student at Manchester Enterprise Academy I am outraged that we are classed as troubled by this article. It must be much more than 27%. Our school has a bright future, all the friends i know are achieving at least a C maybe a D. This is appauling how you class us as troubled!
If our school is so 'bad' why would the Manchester Airport invest 27million on our new school?
good luck to him,
Good luck.
