THREE schools are to close and be replaced by academies, despite opposition from teachers.

Hayward School will close on December 31 and re-open as Essa Academy on January 1.

Withins secondary school and Top o' th' Brow primary school will close in August next year, reopening as Breightmet Academy in September.
