Plan for Oldham school staffed by soldiers on course

The proposed Phoenix School in Oldham would focus on self-discipline and use rigorous outdoor exercises to prepare students for the classroom.

Backers of the project – which would need to be approved by the government – say they have nearly recruited all the pupils they need to submit a formal application.

Governors at Bridgewater school in Salford quit as parents back headteacher over payment row

Governors at a private school have resigned after parents revolted in support of their headteacher. Hundreds of parents at Bridgewater School in Worsley, Salford, voted to back Judy Nairn – who had quit as head in a row over payments to one of the school’s board members.
