Bramhall thug jailed for attacks on Good Samaritans near Piccadilly station

YOBS: Oliver O’Neill (centre) has been jailed for two violent attacks on people who tried to intervene when he was causing trouble – his pals Thomas Chrapowski, left, and Thomas Lane, right, were both spared jail

A violent thug who preyed on Good Samaritans has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

Oliver O’Neill, 23, would cause trouble outside the Spar near Piccadilly station before viciously beating up those who challenged him.

O’Neill, of Redford Drive, Bramhall, admitted two charges of causing grievous bodily harm.

Locked up in January '12

Manchester Crown Court heard that in the first attack, Daniel Ruggerio, a 26-year-old chef, saw O’Neill and two pals abusing a worker.

Mr Ruggerio tried to calm the situation, but when he left the store O’Neill punched him to the floor before kicking him four times in the head.

Samuel Kamdem, the security guard, told police, ‘I thought he was going to kill him’.

Mr Ruggerio suffered a fractured eye socket and needed stitches around the other eye.

While on bail for that incident, O’Neill attacked a man who had challenged him because he was emptying a bin onto the street.

Joseph O’Reilly was punched and kicked the victim in the stomach before O’Neill kicked him in the face as he lay helpless.

Two pals who joined him in the second attack, Daniel Chrapowski and Thomas Lane, have been spared jail.

Chrapowski, 24, of Totnes Avenue, Bramhall admitted a charge of grievous bodily harm and was given a 12-month suspended sentence.

Lane, 24, of Redford Drive, Bramhall, admitted affray and was given a 12-month community order.
