Fireworks were posted through two letterboxes in Bredbury.
A gang of youths targeted two homes on Broadway on Tuesday at 9.50pm. Anyone caught has been warned they face prosecution.
In both incidents the fireworks were lit and the explosion caused plastic and metal from the letterbox to shatter.
Watch commander Eamonn Lyons, from Whitehill fire station, said: "This had the potential to cause serious problems. Aside from the fire risk if anyone had been walking past the door when the fireworks exploded they could have been seriously injured.
"This is treated extremely seriously by ourselves and the police, who will actively pursue prosecution."
Earlier in the day, crews from the same station had been called to a terraced house at Luton Road, Reddish, at 4.05pm.
A woman was treated for smoke inhalation after leaving a washing basket on the cooker. Minor damage was caused to the kitchen and firefighters used a fan to clear the house of smoke.
Elsewhere, bags of rubbish were torched outside homes on Bolshaw Road, Heald Green, and Stanley Road, Cheadle Hulme.
Both fires happened at 11pm and but were extinguished before any damage was caused.

Absolute idiots! They could have killed people and should be treated harshly by the courts if they ever get caught - which I very much doubt!
i agree with kat0504 its absolutly disgracful what the youths of today get up to.i hope that they do catch whoever is going around doing stupid things like this.
Sound like they need the fireworks ramming down their throats - Lit.
I had one thrown at me and some friends as we walked down Wellington Rd on Saturday, totally unprovoked.
