Sound school hails 20 years of music

MANCHESTER'S School of Sound Recording is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the launch of a state-of-the-art learning centre, scheduled to open this year.

The new learning centre, known as the Ina Centre, will include a Technics DJ Academy, a vocational business training unit, a language centre and a creative media training facility.

Located in Ardwick and forming a new campus for the school, the centre will provide 2,000 square metres of new teaching space, 11 highly-equipped classrooms, conference facilities and a high-specification, commercial-standard, digital recording studio.

Its completion will quadruple the current teaching capacity and create a unique dual-campus music and audio teaching facility. The school trades as a limited company, with a turnover of £1.25m.

With a staff of 37, it has also made a flying start to the year with three certifications with leading audio technology and equipment manufacturers.

It has become Europe's first Digidesign authorised pro-school, an official Steinberg training centre and an official Roland training centre.

Paul Collins, marketing manager at the School of Sound Recording said: "The new campus symbolises monumental progress, not only within the school itself, but in terms of music industry education across the UK as a whole."

It already has an enviable track record. Graduates have gone on to work alongside artists such as Ms Dynamite, Madonna, Badly Drawn Boy, New Order, Bjork and U2 among others.
