The university of design and style

THE Styles & Wood Academy, a 'corporate university' initiative for the training and development of all staff at the retail interiors specialist, has just completed its first year of operation.

Some 180 staff at the interior design and fit-out firm, ranging from architects, designers, quantity surveyors and project managers to administrative staff, have participated in the programme, which incorporates four modules developed in conjunction with Manchester Business School: values, behaviours and aims, improving skills, becoming a manager and advanced management learning.

The Academy is a first in this sector of the construction industry and is now being put forward as a case-study for the Government-sponsored Accelerating Change in the Built Environment Education (ACBEE) initiative supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
