BUSINESSES in Cheshire are to play a leading role in a scheme to help firms win contracts in India.
Junior minister Nigel Griffiths confirmed during a visit to the county that Business Link Cheshire and Warrington would be the main contact point for UK companies seeking to win business through the venture. It is being jointly run with the Indian government.
Mr Griffiths, who is responsible for small business, toured the Warrington-based industrial clothing firm J and K Ross, which has run an education and training programme for more than 200 employees.
Mr Griffiths said he hoped other firms would follow suit. He added: "Businesses who want to survive in the long-term cannot afford to ignore the importance of training."
He was also taken to Xpdia, a multi-million pound test-bed project at Cinnamon Park, Birchwood, designed to help hi-tech firms benefit from developments in mobile telecoms technology, and toured EXi Telecoms, in Warrington.
