Cobbetts Solicitors' senior partner Stephen White has been appointed as a vice-president of the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester, which helps individuals and organisations identify causes which they can support.
Stephen, 52, of Wilmslow, joins Co-op Bank chief executive Mervyn Pedelty, Manchester University vice-chancellor Prof Sir Martin Harris, Pannone and Partners' Rodger Pannone, entrepreneur Paul Versace and MEN editor Paul Horrocks in the role.
The married father-of-two already serves on the council of the Disabled Living charity. He is also on the pro.manchester council.
His role for the Community Foundation will involve promoting the organisation in the professional and finance sectors.
Stephen is a commercial property specialist who acts mainly for developers, investors, landlords and tenants. He became Cobbetts' senior partner in April 1999.
Nick Massey, the Community Foundation's chief executive, said: ''It's great to welcome a key figurehead of Manchester business to the board.''
