CLUTTERED desk space is about to become a thing of the past with the launch of a computer no bigger than a mouse pad.
The world's smallest PC is manufactured in Taiwan, but Cheetham Hill-based Taitec has sole distribution rights in the UK.
Despite its size, the M-Series is as powerful as a top-of-the-range desktop PC, running the latest Intel processors with ease.
Driven by a unique miniaturised motherboard, it comes complete with internal modem, LAN, hard drive, speaker and CD. Yet it weighs less than a bag of sugar.
The light-weight flat screen monitor that accompanies the M-series is another space saving device. Surprisingly, the complete package could retail for as little as £900.
New interest
Taitec director, Mazhar Hussain, said: ''It is going to take up only a tenth of the desk space so instead of just one person at a desk you could fit two. We are also hoping to get special cases made so that the hard drive can fit underneath the desk creating even more space.''
Suitable for home and business use, Mazhar anticipates interest from many sectors including education, hospitals and call centres.
Taitec was formed in July by directors Mazhar and Gulfraz Hussain and Khurram Mughal to provide IT training to both public and commercial sectors.
Courses cover topics from basic PC skills to the more technical Java.
''There is a lot of demand,'' said Mazhar. ''We have just signed a contract to provide MANCAT with corporate training. The business managers there were impressed with the organisation and have booked training on a whole range of subjects including Excel and Powerpoint.''
Open seven days a week, it is the only centre in the country that operates a 24-hour exam centre. And under the trading name, Genie Tech, the company also sells computer technology online with a selection of 15,000 products.
''We are also planning to offer distance learning in-house and 'boot camps' which are crash courses. Eventually, we want to be a one-stop information technology centre.''
