A CLUTCH of awards has placed four-star hotel and country club Marriott Worsley Park well and truly on the map.
The four-year-old, 159-bedroomed hotel landed the Manchester Hotel of the Year accolade at the recent Life Magazines' Food and Wine Awards hot on the heels of the Group Hotel of the Year award from the AA the previous year.
It has retained its prestigious Green Globe accreditation for sound environmental policies after being the first hotel in Europe, and the first golf course in the world, to earn the recognition.
General manager Paul Marlow said: "We were judged on four areas - environmental management, natural habitats, waste management and impact in neighbourhoods - and are proud to have retained the accreditation each year since.
"And now the Manchester Hotel of the Year - won by The Lowry last year - is the icing on the cake."
The Marriott Worsley Park was short-listed along with the Meridien Palace and Malmaison hotels in the category and judges commented that its "excellent modern facilities" and "imaginative preparation of food in the restaurant" had secured the award.
And with the hotel now carving out reputation for itself as an ideal venue for amateur golfing championships, it's setting its sights on the professional game.
"We have hosted the national finals of the Mail On Sunday championship, the biggest amateur team event in the world, and we are currently finalising details to host our first professional golf tournament next year," said Paul Marlow. Tweet
