Channel M appoints chairman

CHANNEL M, the UK's leading city TV station, has announced the appointment of Steve Hewlett as non-executive chairman.

The move comes as Channel M embarks on a major expansion of its services within the Greater Manchester region, having recently expanded its staff from 34 to 104. In April of this year, Channel M moved on to the Sky platform.

Mark Dodson, Channel M's chief executive, said: "We are thrilled that Steve has accepted this appointment at this crucial time in the station's development.

"The fact that someone of Steve's calibre has agreed to play such an instrumental part in the station's future means that we will be able to develop our offering in a more informed and strategic way."

Mr Hewlett said: "I am really pleased that Mark and the Channel M team have asked me to work with them.

"Over the past few years, I have watched the station's development with interest and feel that it is set to become a major force in regional broadcasting over the coming years.

"I am looking forward to helping the station grow to meet this challenge."

Channel M is owned by the Guardian Media Group, publisher of the Manchester Evening News.
