MATTHEW Worsley, 19, who works at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Manchester, has made it to the regional final of a contest to find the young chef of the year. Matthew, 19, was named as the Manchester heat winner and will compete against hopefuls from Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria for the north west crown in September. Entrants had to devise a three-course meal for two for under é20 using seasonal produce from the region. Matthew's menu included West Coast Scallops, Tatton venison and Cheshire potatoes.

COMPANIES across the region are being urged to enter a national award scheme recognising enterprises helping to reduce water consumption at their premises. Applications for the industry and business category of Environment Agency's Water Efficiency Awards must be submitted by the end of August. MORTGAGE broker Michael Goldman, 30, has won broker of the year for customer service and professionalism at the first British Mortgage Awards. Michael, who is based in Whitefield, near Bury, was presented with the accolade at a gala dinner at London's Royal Albert Hall. Michael set up Goldman & Co, based on Bury New Road, two years ago.

CHESHIRE-based Felix Group has appointed Richard Rose, 50, the former chief executive of tea and coffee retail chain Whittard of Chelsea, as chairman. Mike Masters, 62, a former finance director of newspaper publishing group Trinity, has joined the board of AIM-listed Felix as a non-executive director.

RECRUITMENT firm Cork Griffiths has moved from Alderley Edge to offices in Marple, near Stockport.
