Guy Hutchence, of Cedar Mount High, Gorton, was recognised for his `invaluable leadership skills and innovative approach to developing links between schools and business leaders'.
The school, set up in 2000,was judged by Ofsted inspectors three years ago to have serious weaknesses. But partnerships with companies have helped it to become one of the most improved schools in Britain.
Mr Hutchence said: "Working with businesses equips children with certain social skills that will help them in working life, and businesses get to give something back to the community.
"It's recognition that the school has increased its commitment to working with the community. The school staff nominated me as a demonstration of their commitment to that programme."
The `Big Tick' awards are presented for positive impact on the community and the environment.
