The é20m mixed-use scheme in Sheffield is a step away from home for Artisan's Bolton-born owner Carol Ainscow.
Observers say it's a sign that the firm intends to compete with local rival Urban Splash, which has already made a name outside the region.
Urban Splash already has a major scheme in Sheffield, which means the two firms will compete head-to-head.
Artisan's Sheffield scheme will include 132 apartments and 3,275 sq ft of retailing. The site is at the junction of Blonk Street and Wicker Street.
Carol Ainscow, chairman of Artisan, said: "I think Sheffield has all the ingredients for a very successful future and I am delighted to take part in the regeneration of the city. The Artisan team is looking forward to working in Sheffield for many years to come."
Artisan, which specialises in urban regeneration, was founded by Ainscow in 1990. Until now the company has focused on Manchester and Liverpool. Tweet
