SECURITY camera manufacturer Baxall has pulled off a major international coup.
Its equipment has been installed at 25 stations on Moscow's ornate Metro transport system.
Security on the grandiose Metro, which is filled with works of art and magnificent underground palace-like structures, has been of prime concern since a terrorist bomb attack in 1996.
Now some stations have been provided with state of the art CCTV systems to ensure travellers in the Russian capital are safe.
At Proletarskaya station, 28 Baxall Digital Signal Processing CDSP9313 cameras have been installed four at its entrance and exit, four in the cash hall, four covering the escalators and 12 in the underground hall.
Tracking
The cameras are connected to a multiplexer, which enables the station controller or operator to see various multiple or single images from live or recorded cameras.
The multiplexer also enables images from all of the connected cameras to be recorded on a single digital recorder.
This recorder provides high-resolution images and direction connection to an existing local network.
This feature is particularly important in Moscow as the CCTV system is being run across a digital network.
Operators therefore have the opportunity to distribute images to other stations, which is ideal when tracking a crime suspect, who may be trying to evade detection by getting on a train to another station.
Baxall, which is based on the Bredbury Park Industrial Estate, Stockport, secured the Metro contract through one of its Russian distributors, Security Formula, which won a competitive tender. Tweet
