ROYAL rears were comfortably accommodated during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony when a Droylsden firm stepped into the breach.

Around a fortnight before the curtain was raised on the massive multi-sport event, the City of Manchester Stadium's impressive royal box had something missing.

Thirty eight chairs for the royal party were noticeably absent and drastic action had to be taken.

Bring on Café Interiors. Director Juss Szabo said: "We're becoming quite well known for pulling people out of difficult situations and this was no different.

"We were given two weeks to produce 35 chairs for the royal box, plus three specially-designed high back chairs for the royal party."

The company's joinery shop and upholstery experts swung into action to produce the royal blue chairs and deliver them to the stadium in time for the opening ceremony.

Café Interiors has come a long way since it started four years ago in a garage. Now it can count among its clients The Lowry, Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well hit TV series Cutting It, Merseybeat and the Cold Feet.

It specialises in providing state-of-the-art interior design products. One of their products to really take off is a range of liquid floor tiles.

Liquid is sealed into tiles and, when pressure is applied, the floor appears to move and swirl.

And now Café Interiors, which employs 18 people, is setting its sights abroad with contracts already landed in Japan, Russia and Peru.
