CBI director general Digby Jones officially opened law firm Pinsent Curtis Biddle's headquarters in Manchester.
The practice had been in temporary premises since it opened in January. Now it has a permanent home, in The Chancery, Spring Gardens.
Mr Jones said Pinsent's decision to expand into Manchester was a reflection of the north west's vibrancy and of the firm's self-confidence.
The branch began with 20 staff and has grown to around 30. Further expansion is planned.
A reception to mark the opening was held at Manchester Art Gallery. Since the branch opened, Pinsent has advised on several major deals, including Speedy Hire's acquisition of Jewson's hire division. Pinsent has offices in London, Leeds and Birmingham.
Senior partner Julian Tonks said the opening gave the firm a presence in all of the major UK legal centres.
