Let there be less light

MANCHESTER'S Building Design Partnership has warned that UK businesses are wasting up to '100m a year through poor use of office lighting. It says some 70 million square metres of office space in the UK is unnecessarily lit, costing '200-300m a year.

New academy

A NEW '14.5m academy in Manchester designed by city architects Aedas has now opened its doors. Built on the site of the former Ducie High School and situated in Moss Side, the new 87,200 sq ft three -storey Manchester Academy will accommodate 900 pupils.

Gleeson move

GLEESON Building has moved its north west office to Heaton Mersey`s Embankment business park from nearby Cheadle.
