Avondale Environmental secures £17m to fund Falkirk recycling facility

Avondale Environmental, which specialises in generating energy from landfill waste and is owned by Knutsford-based Landmedia, has secured a £17m funding package to develop a recycling facility at Falkirk in Scotland.

Avondale's site will process 200,000 tonnes of household and commercial waste a year.

Waste management group Landmedia and Shanks Group co-owned Avondale until 2009, when the Cheshire-based outfit bought its partner's stake in the business.

The Manchester office of HSBC provided the new £17m package.

Andrew Stubbs led a team at the Manchester office of accountants Grant Thornton who advised Avondale, which has a range of public and private sector contracts across Scotland.

Derek Cooper, a director at Avondale, said: “We've nurtured our plans over a number of years, including taking the scheme through planning, so we're obviously delighted to have reached this significant milestone.”
