Don't ask the people in Manchester or Birmingham - ask the people in continental Europe and anywhere outside the UK : I am sure, for most of us Manchester is unrivaled the second City in the UK.

Yes, but I find they tend to think of Liverpool -Manchester as one and the same place - which, of course, it is.

Athertonian you really don't know anything do you? if anyone thinks Liverpool and Manchester are the same place they are more than wrong they are ignorant, you may as well say Madrid and Barcelona are the same...London and Bristol? they're both "in the South" as far as some are concerned.

Not really. The Pier Head and Piccadilly are only 35 miles apart, as opposed to 380 (Madrid/ Barcelona) and 106 miles (London/ Bristol) apart respectively. In any case, I said I find continental Europeans tend to think Liverpool-Manchester is one place - not that I do.Touch of little Mancunianism, Garret?

And Leeds (+a lot more) is 35 miles west, the M65 Linear City is even nearer and Stoke 40 miles to the south.. Its about time we got our act together as well as our transport and even our media. Perhaps our own Premier League!
