REGENERATION expert Dr Cathy Garner has been appointed managing director of the body aiming to steer Manchester's economy into the fast lane.

Dr Garner, 53, will take up her role with Manchester: Knowledge Capital in January.

M:KCis a partnership of business, education and government charged with driving the city's economic growth in the learning- focused knowledge economy.

Prof Sir Marin Harris, executive chairman said: "Cathy has an incredibly strong background in partnership working and we believe she has the perfect mix of skills and experience."

Dr Garner said: "Manchester: Knowledge Capital is an innovative and exciting initiative which will not only contribute further to Manchester's position in the global knowledge economy, but can ensure that benefit comes to all the people in the region." Tweet
