Charity night nets £25k

SPORT was top of the agenda at a charity business fund-raising evening last week which raised over '25,000 for the spinal injury charity ASPIRE.

Hosted by BBC rugby commentator Ian Robertson, the event at the Palace Hotel, was attended by a number of sporting personalities including ex-Manchester City star Dennis Tueart, former United defender Arthur Albiston and former Sale rugby and Scotland international skipper Bryan Redpath.

Teams took part in an interactive sports quiz, while a trip to China, donated by China Airlines fetched more than '1,000 in an auction.

MANCHESTER United report that the plan to extend the seating capacity of Old Trafford by 7,800 to 75,600 will cost '6m less than the '45m originally thought. Plans for the scheme have been submitted to Trafford council.
