Regency Glass's apprentice drive

Regency Glass has added its backing to the Good for Business campaign the M.E.N. is running with the National Apprenticeship Service to boost the number of apprentices in north west businesses.

The Leigh processed glass firm currently employs seven apprentices – 21 have completed training in areas including glass processing, business administration and IT over the past eight years.

General manager Wayne Fitzmartin believes apprenticeships are a catalyst to improved dedication, commitment and confidence.

He said: “One of our employees who joined as an apprentice is now a supervisor in charge of 18 staff.

“Apprenticeships have equipped our employees with sector-specific skills, and have also led to improvements in attitude and commitment, which I believe contributes to our low rate of staff turnover.”
