Dragon Peter Jones says 'I'm in' to Sport Relief

Peter Jones and David Walliams

TV dragon Peter Jones wants to shine a light on Manchester SMEs who back this year’s Sport Relief campaign by contributing £100 each.

He has taken on the role of 'fund raising guru' supporting the BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride, which is due to pass through Manchester tomorrow.

It kicked of yesterday when a team of celebs – including Little Britain comic David Walliams - set off on a non-stop 1,000-mile journey from John O’Groats to Lands End.

At the same time Peter started a marathon money-raising effort that also aims to recognise 1,000 charitable companies.

He is traveling the route in his mobile boardroom – a converted bus, which will be the operational HQ of his fundraising efforts.

Peter said: “I was asked by David to help out on the fund raising side and I am doing my utmost.

“I wasn't in the least bit tempted to pull on a pair of cycling shorts, I am much more effective sitting behind a desk making calls.

“I decided to target smaller firms because I firmly believe they are the mainstay of the country.

“£100 is not a difficult target and I have got a big belief in them.”

In return, Peter has created an online 'share index' called the Pedal Power 1,000, which aims to promote each company that makes a donation.

He said: “There are not many smaller companies who get their name up in lights and I want these companies to be proud to say they have donated.

“I hope that a little promotional support from me in return will make it worth their while.

“Other big TV charity efforts don’t seem to actively involve smaller companies in their fundraising , but these firms like to do their bit and should get some recognition for their efforts.”

Ten of the companies who take part – the five companies who donate the most money, and five chosen at random – will be invited to a lunch hosted by Peter and his investment team, where they will get a chance to talk about their business.

Companies who wish to make a donation should visit www.peterjones.tv
