A SALFORD Quays curtain designer and distributor has swooped for a manufacturer across the Pennines.

Gordon John Textiles has paid an undisclosed sum for Style Furnishings (Sheffield), which makes made-to-measure curtains.

The deal was funded by Barclays' commercial finance team in Manchester, led by Mike McDermott and Dave Rodgers.

Mr McDermott said: "This strategic acquisition represents an exciting phase in Gordon John Textiles' development."

Gordon John Textiles was established in 1976 and was sold to the quoted group Headlam in 1995. In 2000, it was bought by its management.

The business supplies fabrics and readymade curtains to multiple retailers and small independent outlets.

Bosses said the acquisition brings a manufacturing capability which will complement its core design, sourcing and distribution operations.

Mr McDermott said the deal underlined Barclays' strong appetite to provide funding to quality businesses in the region.
