MIPIM - A vision of the future

 Manchester's MIPIM yacht

MANCHESTER has shown the business world its 'Cannes do' attitude at the annual MIPIM gathering.

MIPIM is the world's largest property and investment forum which takes place in Cannes on the Cote d'Azur in France each year.

MIPIM stands for Marche International des Professionnels d'Immobilier and attracts developers, agents, architects, investors, lawyers, regeneration and council bosses and other professionals from all over the world.

This year's event - the 20th MIPIM - was not as busy as usual due to the global recession but there was still plenty of work to be done and, indeed, many delegates preferred it that way.

Here are MEN business editor Kevin Feddy's reports on the efforts of Manchester's commercial leaders to make an impact on the international stage:

Pushing on despite the downturn

Manchester's Cannes-do attitude

Sleeves rolled up to beat the crunch

Foreign investors backing region

Future's bright for Oxford Road

The 'dynamic city'

Hope for broadband boost

Business case for Bolton still holds good

Long-haul growth 'vital'

Nice to see that during a recession Howard Bernstein, Andrew Stokes and friends can jet off to the south of France to jolly on a yacht, all at taxpayers expense, of course! The down turn must be having such a terrible impact on them...

It always surprises me that the public are sucked into my this event at Cannes, the fact is that's a jolly for the property sector, originally for the private sector but has now become a event that public funded bodies must attend including a Manchester based housing association. It would be interested to receive exact details of the business regenerate but of course the answer will be its an event everybody attends the exposure can not be measured. Even in a recent article in the property weekly journal it was questioned, why were these organisation were attending Cannes, there seems to be no valid answer.

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. If it was such a good way to generate new business, then why do the Airport go when passenger figures have fallen for the past 4 years ! MIPIM = JOLLY
