Jo Elliott and Helen Barker each have three children and have ploughed around £5,000 and hundreds of hours into creating their online travel directory - Away with the Kids.
Jo, whose youngest daughter Aggie is 10 months, has been a stay-at-home mum since giving birth to her first daughter seven years ago.
A former environmental consultant, she was keen to get back to work but also to have the flexibility of being at home with her children.
She hit upon the idea of Away with the Kids after being left feeling uncomfortable in a number of holiday venues in the UK.
She says: "Many places in the UK seem so intolerant of children and families.
"We've stayed at both hotels and B&Bs and have had to endure hostile stares when one of my children has spilt their cornflakes, which is so completely different to holidays on the continent.
"The UK has so much to offer families but, apart from the Butlins-style places, which are not everyone's cup of tea, it can be difficult to find places that wholeheartedly welcome children.
"Helen and I have spent hours and hours on the internet searching for various types of accommodation that are family-oriented and believe we have a directory that offers something for everyone."
Away with the Kids, which is based in Stockport, will officially go live on January 25. So far it has more than 60 properties on the site, with each paying a fee for their listing.
Accommodation on the site includes farms, cottages, hotels, youth hostels, campsites and even a tree house and wigwam, and caters for a range of budgets.
Jo and Helen are now putting together a marketing strategy for their business, and are confident that it will be a hit with families.
They plan to introduce a late availability section as well as expand the number of properties on offer.
Jo says: "All of the accommodation is aimed specifically at people with children, and provides things like proper high-chairs and games consoles - but most of all kids are welcome."
