Britain's biggest food producer - whose brands include Hovis, Mr Kipling, Sharwoods and Bisto - is gearing up to open the Premier Business Services hub at Spring Gardens, off Market Street.
Premier Foods scoured the country for locations before deciding to bring the operation to Manchester.
MIDAS, the inward investment agency tasked with attracting investment to Manchester, played a key role in bringing the hub to the city.
The site, expected to open in 2009, will bring the com- pany's finance and administration departments under one roof for the first time, creat- ing 200 jobs in those fields, with 40 more for IT professionals.
MIDAS proved the business case for setting up the centre in Manchester, then helped Premier Foods find premises, and introduced it to recruitment firms.
David Rattigan, of Premier Foods, said MIDAS had given the firm `tremendous support'.
He added: "The scale of our business has changed dramatically in recent years, and the creation of Premier Business Services reflects this growth."
Colin Sinclair, chief executive of MIDAS, said: "This is another big company choosing Manchester as the best location for its shared service centre, joining the ever-growing cluster in the region.
"Premier Foods has shown confidence in the people here in Manchester to deliver cost savings and operational efficiencies in these turbulent times."

This is the same Premier Foods that closed Robertsons Jam works, Sharwoods Sauce factory etc with the loss of 655 jobs across Greater Manchester since 2007.
