Hosted by the University of Salford on November 25, the event is being billed by organisers as an opportunity for broadcasters, academics, producers and other stakeholders from across Britain to engage with each other and with media regulator Ofcom on these crucial issues.
It comes at a time when Ofcom is attempting to provide a road map for the future of public service broadcasting amid great change in the industry.
ITV is cutting back drastically on the number of people employed in its traditional regional operations and the BBC is considering plans for ultra-local video services across the country.
The event will feed in to Ofcom's consultation on its Public Service Broadcasting Review.
Speakers already confirmed include representatives of some of the most high-profile organisations in the industry, among them ITV, the Guardian Media Group - owner of the Manchester Evening News and Channel M - the BBC, the Institute of Welsh Affairs and UTV Television.
The day will be chaired by writer, broadcaster and Media Guardian columnist Steve Hewlett.
Admission to the event is free and it will run between 10.30am and 4pm.
An Ofcom spokesman said: "We are particularly keen to ensure representation from across the whole of the UK."
