Food giants share transport

TRANSPORT Food and consumer goods giants including the
Co-op,
Heinz and
Kellogg's said today that a scheme to share vehicles, improve warehouse efficiency and use the railways more had helped save 53 million road journey miles over the past year - equivalent to removing 900 lorries from Britain's roads.
The Efficient Consumer Response initiative is spearheaded by market intelligence and supply chain organisation
IGD. Alastair Sykes, chief executive of IGD, said the project had beaten its initial target saving of 48 million miles.
