A PART-TIME venture designing showhome interiors for local builders has turned into a £2m turnover business for an entrepreneur from Cheshire.

Jane Pickup established interior design-to-furniture installation company Style Counsel Interiors after realising that there was a gap in the market.

The services provided by Style Counsel Interiors include measuring properties, interior design and installing furniture. It focuses on providing services to the buy-to-let market, but has recently branched out into wholesaling furniture to interior designers and developers.

The Congleton-based firm was established in October 2003 and its success has led to its nomination in the `turnover under £10m' category of the M.E.N Business of the Year Awards.

Chief executive Jane said: "The business began from a spare room at home employing one member of staff and renting one rack of space at a local warehouse. We initially had stock to furnish 10 properties.

"Style Counsel Interiors now employs 15 members of staff and has 15,000 square feet of warehouse, holding stock to complete 250 apartments.

"I believe that our success is down to vision, focus on excellence and commitment to moving forward with a successful concept to diversify into new markets, ensuring the longevity of the business.

"This is all underpinned by strong financial performance with no borrowing."
