Manchester Airport, Alpha Airports Group, SSP UK Air, British Airways and VLM Airlines have today joined United City.
United City, which is supporting the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities' transport plans, now has 107 members.
The five companies from the aviation sector employ almost 4,000 staff on the Manchester Airport site - more than 20 per cent of the total workforce.
Manchester Airport's managing director, Andrew Cornish, said: "Improving the way that our passengers and staff access the airport is a key objective of our Master Plan to 2030, and a successful TIF bid would enable us to reach our targets within the next five years."
Nick Inkster, CEO of SSP UK Air, said: "An improved public transport system will enhance the travel experience of all users, from our employees to our customers."
Peel Holdings, the property giant, is leading the Greater Manchester Momentum Group, which is opposed to road pricing.

They don't have an operation within the M60 so it doesn't affect them.
One of the worlds most polluting companies backs plans to charge drivers in Manchester in a bid to cut carbon emmisions!

Oh, and won't Manchester airport be one of the big 'winners' when the revolution comes with the airport link that they've been promised for DECADES finally materialising?
There are currently over 200 companies making up GMMG and most of them are WITHIN the M60 ring.

And who owns the airport? Would that be 10 councils of Greater Manchester?

As for British Airways joining the pro charge scheme - what a cheek. Its akin to Scottish MPs voting on English matters. They virtually abandon Manchester and then decide to support a charging plan.

"Aviation players back c-charge"
And yet they do not state that in the article, Only that "improved transport links" will help. Nothing about having to pay for the use of the roads, for every £1 that goes on the charge cannot go into their bank accounts, Thus if you have spent your £1000 plus gong to and from work - Tha's not going to be winging your way from Ringway as often - something will have to give to find the extra money, the season ticket to United/City, the new car, the facelift etc

On a serious note, you are comfortable with less than 10% of the population paying back 100% of the loan? How selfish!!
£2250 a year PAYCUT - NO THANKS - Paul Teeque (14/08/2008 at 13:54)
Its very obvious! Peel suggested manc airport should be sold off to FUND the improvements INSTEAD of a con charge.
OF COURSE MANC AIRPORT ARE FOR CONGESTION CHARGING! It keeps their coffers overflowing and puts to bed the idea they should sell up.
More propaganda and corruption i'm afraid from the clown hall.
