is cutting jobs as a result of the slump in the mortgage market.
The companybased at Ewloe near Chester, which has enjoyed stellar growth in the past five years as consumers have become more price aware and web-savvy, said it was cutting more than 50 jobs from its Mortgage 2000 arm.
The proposed reduction represents around eight per cent of the listed company's workforce.
"Difficult time"
Stuart Glendinning, managing director of moneysupermarket.com, said: "We recognise this is a difficult time for everybody at moneysupermarket.com, and we will support staff through this process.
"Our intermediary business isn't immune from the effects of the current market conditions, especially in the mortgage and loans market.
"However, we remain confident in the group's growth prospects."
The company has recently seen sharp falls in its share price as a result of the shrinking mortgage and loans market.

Their stupid ads are are repeated on tv ad nauseum, perhaps only beaten by Confused and Go Compare in the irritation stakes.
I only try to use USwitch and Tesco since their ads aren't so bad and they're not shown 10,000 times a day.
If you use their site, whatever you do don't put your number in. The first and last time I went on there, I got called back and was told I was going to put be put through to an insurer on the other line. I hung up.
