Gwyn Jones, from Chorlton-cum-Hardy, has completed two commissions for Manchester property company Bruntwood and a third for the Manchester-based BBC Philharmonic.
Gwyn, who spent 20 years providing the illustrations for book jackets, is now taking on more commissions to provide artistic adornments for the city's corporate movers and shakers.
"My work is figurative, which means some people look at it and think it's a photograph - it is very realistic but I hope I give it a strong painterly edge," she said. "It was a huge compliment to have Bruntwood ask me to complete two large paintings for them, and afterwards it dawned on me there are plenty of companies out there that need artwork, whether it is for the foyer or the boardroom, portraits of the team or portraits of the directors."
Gwyn says her colour palette is natural and simple. "I paint what I see in front of me," she said. She has worked on portraits and murals, as well as large canvases up to 14ft wide. She has also worked in the city's theatres including the Library Theatre, where she enjoyed painting rehearsals.
"Rehearsals appeal to me. I like the idea of catching people in moments when they are not doing what they should be doing," she explained. "I have no idea what the next project will be, but I'm glad I left book jacket illustrations behind."
