ELISABETH Taylor, former managing partner of James Chapman & Co before its merger with Halliwells in 2006, is joining the fledgling Manchester operation of Mills & Reeve along with three other members of her team.

She will take up her new role in Mills & Reeve's insurance department at the beginning of September. Joining her will be associates Janet Arkwright and Wanda Karow, and solicitor Liam Burnett. The addition of professional indemnity specialist Elisabeth and her three colleagues will take staff numbers at Mills & Reeve's office in Peter House, Oxford Street, to 14.

Its northern operation was established in February this year across Manchester and Leeds when the firm took on Addleshaw Goddard's north west family practice.

Mills & Reeve, which also has offices in Norwich, Cambridge, Birmingham and London, posted a 10 per cent rise in annual fee income for 2007-08 to £62.5m, with a £700,000 contribution from its new northern offices.

Profits per equity partner rose seven per cent to £295,000. The firm is looking to reach £110m turnover within five years. Elisabeth specialises in advising solicitors, barristers, accountants and other professionals on negligence claims.

She said today: "Mills & Reeve's insurance group boasts an impressive client base and has gone from strength to strength over the last few years. Clearly there are tremendous synergies between my team's experience and the group's focus, and I hope that will play a pivotal role in building on this success."

Managing partner Guy Hinchley said: "Insurance is a major strand in our six-sector strategy and a key driver to our business.

"We are delighted to have attracted an individual of Elisabeth's quality and profile, and look forward to expanding the team further in the near future. It's very exciting to see our Manchester office expanding so quickly only six months since opening."
