INSURANCE group Swinton Group will create 200 jobs in the coming years as it plans to quadruple the size of its commercial division within five years.

The Manchester-based company's Swinton Commercial arm has increased its revenues by 86 per cent over the past year through organic growth and acquisitions.

This purchasing programme began with the purchase of Rockford, Vectis and AndInsure in 2007 which gave the company an increased share of higher premium and specialist commercial markets.

These acquisitions have also helped take Swinton Commercial's gross income from premiums past the £40 million mark.

The company intends to quadruple its size through further acquisitions over the next two years, and predicts that staff numbers will rise from 200 to nearly 400. Carolyn Callan, head of Swinton Commercial, said that she wants the division to become one of the UK's top ten commercial brokers within five years.

"We will be looking to significantly expand our SME portfolio while increasing our share of higher premiums from both larger commercial clients and specialist sectors, she said.

"We anticipate much of this growth will be achieved through strategic acquisitions in the next two years, and this will help us on our way to being one of the top ten commercial brokers within the next five years."
