A BOLTON stone and marble importer is bringing some Turkish delight to restaurants and bars across the UK.

Serkan Senol founded Goss Marble, which supplies floor and wall coverings to the design and construction industry, two years ago. Since then, turnover has rocketed from £680,000 to a projected £1.8m for 2008. The firm has also outgrown its original premises and has signed an 11,500 sq ft warehouse deal on the Waters Meeting industrial estate.

Goss Marble's products are featured in some of the big hotel and restaurants chains including Revolution bars, Holiday Inns and Restaurant Bar & Grill eateries.

Serkan, who came to the UK from Turkey 11 years ago, set up the business with the help of his father, Oguz, whose business interests include a London restaurant and a kitchen and bathroom company in their homeland. Serkan had previous experience in the industry, having worked at a specialist stone company in Manchester after leaving university. He was originally employed as an interpreter but developed an interest in import and exports.

He soon progressed to export manager at the company before ploughing around £250,000 into setting up Goss Marble.

While most of its marble, polished and stone floors are imported from Turkey, the company has begun sourcing products from Spain, Italy and Brazil.

Serkan says: "The new unit is three times the size of our current warehouse and, with support from Bolton council's regeneration programme, we hope to take another four staff by next September when we complete the transfer from our existing site at Raikes Lane."

The warehouse has been leased from Rossendale developers B&E Boys.
