It is understood that four senior figures - former lawyer and Peel Holdings deputy chairman Robert Hough, ex-banker and occasional M.E.N. columnist John McGuire, Manchester Airports Group chief executive Geoff Muirhead and Felicity Goodey, chair of Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, have been interviewed for the post, which will be announced in late July.
The current chairman Bryan Gray, retires this summer.
The quartet all have strong Manchester ties, with Mr Hough narrowly the favourite.
Mr Muirhead has led Manchester Airports Group with aplomb for a numer of years. John McGuire was corporate director at Royal Bank of Scotland in Manchester for many years and sits on the board of Manchester University. Felicity Goodey, a former TV presenter, played a huge part in luring the BBC to move to Salford.
What do you think? Have your say.
