LAWYERS in Manchester went on international duty as top soccer clubs signed players from four continents during last month's transfer window.

Solicitors at Brabners Chaffe Street acted for Manchester United on swoops for Angolan ace Manucho - one of the stars of the African Cup of Nations - and Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Possebon.

The Brabners team, which included Matthew Bennett, Edward Canty and Carol Couse, also provided advice as West Bromwich Albion secured a work permit for South Korean player Kim Do-Heon, and acted for Liverpool on the Reds' signing of Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel.

Other moves in which Brabners played a role included Manchester United's sale of Ryan Shawcross, Adam Eckersley and Phil Bardsley and Bolton Wanderers' sale of Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea for £15m.

The lawyers are also representing Rangers on the possible move of Daniel Cousins to Fulham.

Meanwhile, Chris Farnell and Paul Fletcher, of Manchester rival IPS Law, advised on transfers totalling £34m, including Middlesbrough's £10m-plus swoop for Brazilian goal ace Alfonso Alves, who moved from Dutch club Heerenveen.
