THE Electrical Contractors' Association has sparked approval by appointing its first female north west chairman.

Diane Johnson, finance director of Eric Johnson, in Northwich, has been elected to the position by its 650 members across the region.

The Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) was founded in 1901 to promote quality, safety and education throughout the electrical industry. The association has over 2,700 member companies nationwide which have a collective turnover of £5bn.

"It really is a great privilege to be the first female chairman for the region and I am honoured that my peers have voted for me to take up the position," said 52-year-old Diane.

"I think that their choice of me demonstrates the forward-thinking nature of an organisation that represents a largely male dominated industry."
