JJB Sports will pay thousands of pounds back to customers who were overcharged for replica football shirts.

Consumer group Which? said the Wigan retailer had agreed to pay up to £20 each for Manchester United and England shirts bought between 2000 and 2001.

It follows legal action by the consumer group on behalf of fans.

In addition to the 600 people owning 1,000 shirts who contacted Which?, JJB says it will pay £10 or £5 to anyone else who bought the shirts in the period,

£10 will be paid to fans who have a receipt for the shirt, or if the label is intact, while £5 will be paid to anyone who has a shirt but does not have receipt, or a proof of purchase, or the label is missing.

JJB, which was fined £6.7m by the Office of Fair Trading for price fixing Umbro shirts made for England and Manchester United between 1999 and 2002.
