MANCHESTER surveyors Cushman & Wakefield have beaten rivals to become advisers on Salford's massive Mediacity development.

Developers Peel Media have appointed Cushman & Wakefield to assist in the development and promotion of Mediacity UK to potential occupiers. The company is the world's largest privately held real estate services firm and transacted over 10m sq ft of space across Europe last year.

Work is already under way onsite at Salford Quays to transform 200 acres of former dockland into an internationally significant creative industries community.

The Mediacity UK development will be home not only to the BBC and other leading broadcasters, but the full range of media and creative organisations, as well as new retail, leisure and residential space.

Phase 1 of the development comprises 500,035 sq ft office buildings, 224,000 sq ft of broadcast studios, 40,000 sq ft of post-production facilities, a 206-bed, three-star hotel and 371 apartments, all due for completion in 2011.
